In the latest blog post on the Christianity Today blog for women, we read that there is a surprising new leader in the global diabetes epidemic: China. And, another (not so) surprising link to the rise in diabetes in China, is also the rise of prosperity in the country. Evidently, the Chinese are becoming wealthier, and as they do so, they are also getting less healthy. And with prosperity and rise of disease, we must look at the root cause of the issue. And, the root cause, whether many will care to admit it, is the worship of the god of comfort.
The god of comfort is everwhere in the United States. We worship convenience in our country. And, the church is no different. So, it's not surprising that with affluence in China, comes more temptation towards commercialism and convenience. And, so goes your risk of disease.
There's nothing wrong with convenient things and comfort so long as it doesn't become an idol we worship. We must be on guard against the temptation in our lives to give in to it. It only has power if you let it.
I'm reminded so clearly of the Ten Commandments and how the Lord clearly states in the first 3 commandments that we are to only worship him and not worship any other gods. If you find you are worshipping the god of comfort today, take COMFORT in knowing that we all have sinned and fall short of His glory. And, Jesus paid the price for our sin once and for all on the cross. When you repent of your sin, He doesn't hold it over you. Move forward even stronger in Him. Take your temptation to sin to Him daily and you will bear much Kingdom fruit.
